I Heart Valentine's Day!

One of my fellow Arts Northeast members threw us a challenge 2 days ago...create artwork with heart as the theme. So I did....

I wanted to do a shadowed heart on white paper with colour surrounding it.

So I proceeded to tear a heart out of art paper and placed it on another sheet of art paper. Then I used various colours and techniques to apply the colours.

When I was finished, I had 2 pieces of artwork - the shadowed heart I had intended to complete, and the hand-torn heart itself!

I think I like "I Heart Colour" best. I also had created a monotype print a few months back that is also Valentine's Day related....

I hope you had a great Valentine's Day and I hope you enjoyed my holiday themed artwork!

Palette Knife Painting Adventure

A few weeks ago, my fellow artists of Arts Northeast got together to explore some artwork creating using only our palette knives.

For someone like me, who enjoys painting details (like in my Swallowtail), palette knife painting is somewhat out of my comfort zone, as it is usually a more loose style of painting.

I managed to produce one finished painting of a yellow dory (below) and started an accompanying painting of an orange punt. Once I got into it, I didn't mind it too badly and would like to try some more paintings using this technique. A larger piece would probably be better, as the canvas I was using was 6" rounds.

Stay tuned for some abstract paintings from this weekend's adventure with the ladies in Arts Northeast! Really outside my comfort zone, so we'll see how that goes!!!
